Reference: European Neuropsychopharmacology. The Journal of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology 2003;13(Suppl 4):S333.
Purpose: To compare the maintenance of treatment in aripiprazole- and haloperidol-treated patients with bipolar disorder over 12 weeks of treatment of an acute manic episode.
Study design: Randomized, double-blinded trial.
Follow up: 12 weeks.
Patients: 347 patients.
Treatment: Aripiprazole 15 mg/day or haloperidol 10 mg/day.
Results: For the maintenance of an acute manic episode at 12 weeks, aripiprazole treatment led to significantly higher response rates and improved tolerability compared with haloperidol.
