OFC for treatment of bipolar depression

OFC is more effective than placebo or olanzapine alone in the treatment of bipolar depression and rapid-cycling depression

Olanzapine monotherapy showed some antidepressive potential in an 8-week trial in bipolar patients. During the same trial, the combination of olanzapine with the SSRI fluoxetine was significantly more effective at preventing depression than olanzapine alone or placebo.

GSK counterclaim:

The effect size for olanzapine in the treatment for acute bipolar depression is modest and smaller than that of lamotrigine (see figure).

Both olanzapine and OFC caused significant weight gain after only 8 weeks of treatment.
